Dr Pinaman Appau is a Consultant Psychiatrist. She is Ghana’s first female Psychiatrist trained by the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and has over the past eighteen years, worked to develop and improve mental health systems in several regions of the country.

Having worked within the mental health space with some of the nation’s most vulnerable persons, it has become her career and life ambition to ensure that persons requiring mental health services are treated with respect and  accorded the best of care, wherever they find themselves. she is widely noted within mental health circles as a leader who seeks to strengthen mental health systems by instituting proper administrative structures at all levels of care.

The quest to fulfil this ambition propelled her to undertake a Master’s Degree program in Public Administration at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) where she graduated as the Overall Best student and Valedictorian, Graduate Programme, for the year 2020.

Dr Appau is also actively involved in the training of Doctors and Psychiatrists from both the Ghana and West African College of Physicians, medical students from the University of Ghana Medical School and other medical schools in the country.

She has for may years championed the rights and welfare of persons living with mental illness, especially women, children and youth.
